This should be embarressing for Jeb Stuart, screenwriter/director of the 'movie' that has been pieced together using material from Tim Tyson's fabricated book, "Blood Done Sign My Name".
Evidence clearly shows that he has been working with and investing in a liar. It's only human to make a few mistakes; however, from the first page, all the way to the last paragraph in this book, there are not "mistakes", but intentional and deliberate inventions.
More revolting is that this information came from the same sources the author Tim Tyson provides in the back of his book.
Dr. Aaron Shirley
"Blood Done Sign My Name" page 136,137.
Tyson states that Dr. Aaron Shirley, a prominent black physician, made this statement:
“We are determined,” told reporters “that from now on when we suspect that law enforcement officers are hell bent on killing some black folks, they’ll be doing it at their own risk.” According to Tyson's sources in chapter 6, page 336, the quote fromDr. Shirley is from Pittsburgh Courier newspaper August 8, 1970.
I have searched the Pittsburgh Courier archives from May 16, 1970 thru August 21, 1970. There are no statements from Dr. Aaron Shirley in the Pittsburgh Courier newspaper on August 8, 1970.
Another invention.
Some might say that such a statement sounds a bit out of character for a doctor who considers himself a professional in the medical field.
Master Thesis "Blood Done Sign My Name" page 301.
Our friendship really blossomed in the summer of 1992, when I was writing my master’s thesis and Herman was finishing his dissertation.
"Blood Done Sign My Name" Page 323.
I first told the story in a master’s thesis submitted at Duke in 1990, Burning for Freedom: White Terror and Black Power inOxford,North Carolina.
Here Tyson claims on page 301 that he was writing his master’s thesis in 1992. However, on page 323 he stated that he submitted his master’s thesis to Duke in 1990.
Does this signature sloppiness bother anyone else? Can Tyson not even keep up with the correct time when he wrote his master’s thesis?
Even the most mundane elements of his book contains flaw after flaw, inaccuracy after inaccuracy.
Tim and friends going clubbing.
Three adults wanting to see a famous entertainer perform, and having to drive at least an hour, would have called and asked a few strategic questions. It's logical to expect that they would have called the club to make sure the show hadn't been sold out.
At that time and in that era, especially, one would expect such similar questions:
"Can we make reservations?"
"Is brown bagging allowed?"
"Attire requirements?"
Wonder why Tyson and friends did not?
As always, Tyson had his agenda. Why upend that agenda with reality when you can arrive at the establishment and deliberately try to shun the rules of the establishment, creating a faux "sinister plot" to get some attention?
"Blood Done Sign My Name" page 302. Herman tall and handsome with his dreadlocks and broad shoulders.
Take a look at the picture below and see for yourself. Do you see any dreadlocks?
Tim was the only one with locks in their hair.Tyson needs the readers of his book to believe the club owner was racist, right out-of-the-gate. With Tyson adding that Herman had dreadlocks--which he didn’t--this fabrication is designed to imply that a "racist" would have even more hostility towards Bennett and his friends--the dreadlocks supposedly adding an "Afro-centric flair".
"Blood Done Sign My Name" page 302. Willetts said it again,”We don't allow blacks in the club, you and your lady friend can come in if you want to, but we don't allow blacks in the club."
"Blood Done Sign My Name" Tim's sources, page 343. Greensboro News and Record newspaper states-- "Club owner Allen Willetts said Friday, however, that Bennett and his friends, Tyson and fellow Duke graduate student Rhonda Mamhood, both white, were denied entry solely because they were not members or the guests of a club member. He said a black woman attended Thursday’s show as a guest of a member."
"Blood Done Sign My Name" page 302.
Herman was standing right behind me, but the club owner would not look at him. Instead Willett keep his eyes fixed squarely on me.
According to Mr. Bennett’s own comment’s in the Greensboro News and Record newspaper, Bennett said that all the owner’s remarks were directed at Tyson."He never spoke directly to me,” Bennett said. “I stood in front of him and he did not talk to me. He acted as if I didn’t exist.”
Herman clearly states in the paper he was standing in front of Mr.Willetts, buton page 302, Tyson claims that Herman was standing right behind him.
It’s curious that a person can’t distinguish who was in front or the back, or what dreadlocks look like. Maybe the three had already had one too many before they arrived; however, that’s no excuse for being unable to get key facts straight years later when it’s in the paper for all to see.
This is anotherexample of Tyson rehashing every incident possible and exaggerating as he tells it again and again.
This scheme has been used so many times before by race-hustlers such as Tim Tyson who always attempt to create a controversy to fit their own agenda.
Even after all the effort Tim Tyson and Mr. Bennett put into contacting Percy Sledge, Sledge wasn't too interested in changing his plans to appear at the estabishment again.
"Blood Done Sign My Name" page 304.
"Who did you call?”Herman asked when I got back."The police,” I said. “Did you tell them they kicked us out?” Herman asked. “No I told them that some crazy man had planted a bomb under Allen’s Country Nightlife and that it would go off in twenty minutes."
Tim Tyson a preacher’s son, calling the police department! Oh, you know not! Saying a crazy man had planted a bomb?
Someone should check to see if there was a bomb threat that night at Allen’s Country Nightlife, or simply more crazy hype added by Tim to embellish an already fabricated tale. Take a look at the entire newspaper article. Greensboro News and Record September 5, 1992.
This is a private club, MEMBERS ONLY! I know from my own experiences with a private club that private means private.
I see none of the three bothered to ask if they could join the club. Of course not. That’s not why they went there.
According to the Greensboro News and Record newspaper Saturday Sept 5, 1992:
Upon Tyson and Bennett’s return toDurham, Bennett and his friends called the Brown Summit club and managed to get Percy Sledge on the phone.
“They told me to my face, Mr. Sledge, that I could not get in because I’m black,” Bennett said he told the entertainer. “I would hope you would not think about playing in such places because this is what the civil rights movement was all about.”
Sledge, however, contacted Friday in Williamston where he was rehearsing for a club date that night, said he preferred to stay out of any controversy.
"I spoke to the manager and he said the club was private.” Sledge said, “I don’t want to get involved with nothing like that. I don’t have any comment." "I don’t want to have anything to say about it, but I do not like that, if it happened that way. I’m sorry if it happened that way." Sledge says he plans to play Allen’s Country again in November.
Even after all the effort Tim Tyson and Mr. Bennett put into contacting Percy Sledge, Sledge wasn't too interested in changing his plans to appear there again. And you would think since Tyson and Bennett were able to talk with Percy Sledge personally, Tyson would have mentioned that in his book.
I would certainly believe the word of a reputable business operator anytime before believing the story of this race-hustler.
Tyson and his friend had a specific agenda.
This is another example of Tyson rehashing every incident that he can and exaggerating and lying as he tells it again and again.
